The Hague will have a ‘university centre’ in the heart of the city. Leiden University, together with the Open University and Universities of the Netherlands, will occupy the Spui building at Grote Marktstraat 48-50/Spui 3 in the center of The Hague from 2025.
“We are going to make a beautiful university campus in The Hague,” said board member and director of Leiden University College The Hague, Erwin Muller. “Collaboration between universities is the future.” On November 7th, the partners signed the leases.
The Open University and Leiden University see opportunities to collaborate on themes such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and safety & security, but new offerings for lifelong development (LLO) are also being considered. Universities of the Netherlands, the association in which the fourteen Dutch universities work together on a strong university sector, is for all universities in the Netherlands and looks forward to establishing itself in this university environment. In addition to the substantive collaboration, the partners will make smart use of the shared facilities in the building, such as the restaurant, coffee and study areas.
